We built the system we couldn't find.
Like most small businesses in Fiji, we tried to go digital the obvious way, signing up to international software one piece at a time. One for the accounts. Another for staff. A spreadsheet for everything that didn't fit. Each was built for somewhere else, and not one of them knew what a TIN was, or an FNPF contribution, or an ROC annual return.
Somewhere in there we worked out what it was really costing us. Most of the week was going on the back end: chasing an invoice, rebuilding the PAYE table, hunting for a receipt. Almost none of it on the thing we started the business to do.
We were spending 80% of our time looking after the back end, and 20% on the work we came into business for.
That is how good businesses fail here. You come in as a designer, a contractor, a photographer. Someone genuinely good at their trade. Within a year you are buried in admin you were never trained for. The work rarely kills a small business. The back office does.
So we built it. Years of testing systems and working inside Fiji's business sector went into one platform that does the whole job: finance, compliance, HR, and the day-to-day management and tasks that keep the week moving. No jumping between logins. No paying for a system designed for another market that never quite fits ours.
Built in the Pacific, for the businesses that trade here, from a one-person studio to a contractor with a crew on site. You look after the work. Let VAKA look after the back end.
Six logins. None of them speak to each other. None of them know Fiji.
